Nikos Manouselis is a co-founder and the CEO of Agroknow. Leading the company to deliver its mission to find, connect & deliver agriculture and food information worldwide. Strategically positioning Agroknow as a global leader in addressing challenges related to the managment, sharing and discovery pf agricultural data. Making sure that all employees in the company have the right expertise, responsibility and flexibility to exceptionally support organisations, make online applications, and lead the development of the international data infrastructures.
Nikos has a diploma in Electronics & Computer Engineering, a M.Sc. in Operational Research, and a M.Sc. in Electronics & Computer Engineering, all from the Technical University of Crete, Greece. He also holds a PhD on agricultural information management, from the Agricultural University of Athens (AUA), Greece.
He has extensive experience in designing and coordinating large scale initiatives related to the organisation, sharing, and discovery of agricultural information for research, education and innovation. He is a member of the Steering Group of the AGRIS service of the Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO). He is an active contributor to the World Bank’s Global Food Safety Partnership (GFSP) initiative: he is serving as a member of its Leadership Group and he has served as the first Industry Co-Chair of its Knowledge & Learning Systems Working Group. He is also a member (and has served as an elected President) of the ARIADNE Foundation, a non-profit-association working towards the facilitation of knowledge creation, sharing and reuse.
Nikos has contributed to the conception, coordination, and implementation of several projects that have been supported with funding from the European Commission - such as eContentplus Organic.Edunet, CIP PSP VOA3R, CIP PSP Natural Europe, CIP PSP Organic.Lingua, FP7 agINFRA, FP7 SemaGrow, H2020 OpenMinTed and H2020 Big Data Europe. He is also often invited to consult networks and organisations that want to improve access to information related to agriculture, food and the environment. A recent appointment has been his recruitment as the Senior Information Architecture Consultant for the G20 Tropical Agriculture Platform (TAP) initiative.
He has over 150 publications in scientific journals, book volumes, and conference proceedings. Most of them can be discovered through his profile in Google Scholar. The slides of some of his talks can be found in his SlideShare page.
Nikos is interested in ways in which open agricultural data & models can be the base upon which a new business ecosystem may formed to facilitate agricultural and technological innovation. He is devoting much of his energy in making Agroknow a pioneer stakeholder in such an ecosystem. He tries to find time to post some of his ideas and opinions at the Agroknow blog (long versions) and on Facebook (shorter ones, opinions on topics of interest).
